About the International Spring Orchestra Festival

Malta, in the heart of the Mediterranean has since the dawn of times been a melting pot where cultures merge. This idea was the primary source which inspired composer Karl Fiorini to craft the International Spring Orchestra Festival. His vision was to create, year in year out, a special event where established local artistes gather with guest stars coming from the four corners of the globe to make music together of the highest quality and where the audience comes to expand its musical horizons in an exciting and artistic environment.

The International Spring Orchestra Festival is about musicians, composers and artists who come together here in Malta to create an incredible musical experience and share with its audience a spectacular musical journey. Over its first 10 years this festival has gone from strength to strength in making music in cultural heritage places around the Maltese islands, of the highest artistic quality. This vibrant and energetic venture contributes to many aspects of the Maltese society be it cultural, economic and educative, and highlights the cultural calender of the season.

Our development work includes the Rising Sarts concert series, a special platform for outstanding young musicians 8 – 18 year olds, as well as master classes for students to perform their repertoire before some of the world’s best professional musicians. The Rising Stars concert series and master classes provide advanced creative music and mentoring opportunities for exceptionally talented young musicians. With a combination of intensive weeklong courses and individual tuition, the young artists collaborate with professional musicians and specialists. We base the selection of our artists not only on technical and musical quality, but character and who foster pedagogical musical excellence to mold the professionals of tomorrow. The International Spring Orchestra Festival also provides a unique opportunity for emerging composers to closely collaborate with guests ensembles and orchestra in residence and to perform their compositions.

The International Spring Orchestra Festival is committed to present a wide range of performances from leading artists to the widest possible public. It also offers affordable excellent classical music, concerts being free of charge for children 15 years and younger, and offers an international showcase for Malta’s rich culture through innovative performances and programming as well as commitment to new works. The International Spring Orchestra Festival welcomes and makes it possible for all sections of the Maltese public to experience and enjoy, and encourages every one to actively participate during its events.
